In just 4 months, he has gone from proficient at a 1st grade level to being proficient at 4th grade level. He's understanding the concepts.
I intend to keep him working in it all school year, so hopefully he'll be at grade level by the end of the year.
I'm utterly amazed at how much he has improved, and he's proud of himself. My kids hate it but they are learning which is the sign of a great program.
We homeschool and have a ton of tools in the belt. This one is engaging and seems to adapt to their individual needs.
I tried out Elephant Learning for my 9 and 12 year olds. They begin with an assessment. The assessment is quite long and repetitive. After the assessment, the method of teaching was to show several math rules in small print on a page, then show a few example problems, then answer more questions.
There was no actual teaching or explaining at the upper level. While it is content rich I didn't feel it fit our needs for summer enrichment of advanced learners.
Upon sharing my reasons for not continuing the program, the representative was quite defensive and bordered on disrespectful. I will not pay a company to bore my children and talk down to me.
I wanted to like this program. I tried really hard. I had nothing but trouble from the beginning. Installing it was difficult.
On three different devices it would say "downloading update" and then give me a black screen with an error message.
I contacted the developers from their install page and received an email from supposedly the creator saying that that was the incorrect email for troubleshooting and to try another email.
I contacted the other email and got an automated reply saying they were closed and they'd respond the next day. Never heard from anyone.
Still haven't. It finally loaded a day or so later. The placement test never came up as is supposed to when you first start the program.
You also have to access different features of the the app through a seperate web browser which really complicates things.
I finally said screw it and let my son start playing it without waiting for the placement test to show up.
He played for a few minutes and went back to a free math app that he has on his Fire tablet. I asked why and he said the games never started.
They always said "loading". This app is a total headache and not worth what they charge, even with their "scholarship".
I have been using this app for a little over a week with all three of my kids. My youngest was able to learn a year's worth of math in that time!
It's amazing! I love Elephant to test the kids skills, but it does not really teach them anything. There are no resources to solidify concepts. They will give a brief overview of a topic and get right into testing.
Unless you understand the concept immediately, you are stuck, unless you jump around to outside sources - at which point, doesn't teach the children anything than how to google an answer.
I do wish they had some type of backup material that shows step by step on how to work a problem, not just memorize an answer. Both of my children could not get past the assessment.
It was boring and for 20min. As a student answers correctly, we advance them forward to get them to the next level quickly.
The result is the student is always receiving activities at their level. The right activity, at the right time, accelerates learning. We guarantee that your student will learn 1 year of mathematics over the course of 3 months when they use our system at least 30 minutes per week.
If your student does not achieve within our system, we will provide a full refund or give you another 3 months and coach your student to goal for free.
It is clear that the developers have an in-depth understanding of how mathematics should be taught.
We believe that this could be the basis of mathematical learning for the future and that is why it has ben awarded our five-star rating.
Hundreds of thousands of students have been in our system. We start with a placement exam, this determines your initial level of understanding, and we provide the results of that assessment in a detailed report.
From there, our system continuously adapts to your student to meet them where they are as we provide you with detailed reports and coaching.
The placement exam sets up our system with the student's initial level of understanding. We provide you with a detailed report of how our system assessed your student that you may take to a teacher or tutor.
Our dashboard has the information you need at your fingertips. Playtime analysis, detailed history, and activities you can play outside of the system allows any parent to be an expert math coach!
We help you as the parent become your child's best math coach. Videos and progress reports are sent directly to your email and whenever our system detects an issue we alert you immediately.
Our dashboard and games age with your student and so everything within the system is always age appropriate! There is a cancel button on this screen.
We only ask that you complete the month that you are on. Your student's Elephant Age will go up by 1 year over 3 months if they use the system 10 minutes per day, 3 days per week.
If it does not, or if along the way you do not feel your students are making sufficient progress please contact us. At 3 months if the goal is not achieved, we will either give you 3 months for free with additional person-to-person coaching OR a full refund.
We are not common core. Many parents find common core frustrating and confusing. Our system is straightforward, and our reports allow the parent to understand how we intend to teach.
We also provide activities that the parent can do with the student to take learning outside of the system. We cover from counting through Algebra.
We have seen students as young as 2 years of age achieve success. If you have an older student that is struggling with upper level mathematics, it tends to be due to a misconception that occurs in Algebra or earlier.
Our system will detect gaps in understanding and fill them with activities that were proven by third-party research to teach the concepts effectively.
It is never too late to understand math. As it turns out, mathematics is really about learning jargon, a jargon that is so fundamental to humanity that we consider it vocabulary.
At the end of the day, algebra comes down to these three steps: define, recognize and produce. Most students learn to multiply in school by memorizing their multiplication tables.
Take, for example, a child who knows that five times four is She can solve the multiplication problem with ease. In early elementary education, the first concepts that we work with are counting and comparisons — that is, quantity comparisons versus what's bigger and smaller.
We might show a child an image of four objects and an image with 12 objects, and ask them to identify which has more or fewer.
It's important for children to know the difference because it sets the stage for addition and subtraction. Making math fun for your child within the confines of your everyday world is easy.
How many engines are on the train? Studies show that early math skills have far-reaching benefits beyond just school performance, so naturally you want to teach your child math concepts early to give them the best edge throughout their life and career.
How early is too early? And, for that matter, where do you start when the time comes? Teaching math effectively is so much more involved than giving your child a math sheet filled with problems or asking them to memorize some multiplication tables.
It requires passing on the experience of math concepts and ensuring a child truly comprehends a math concept before going on to the next one.
However, with a little bit of work and a lot of patience, parents can teach their children math in a way that sets them up for future success.
Evaluating their comprehension based on the language surrounding math makes building this foundation that much easier.
Many math apps are parent-free zones or, at best, parents are an afterthought within the app. Every study shows outcomes for students are better when parents are involved.
The truth is, when I started this company, my first child was on his way. I created this system as a tool to ensure that he receives the benefits of mathematics education and avoids the American educational pitfall.
We live in a time when, increasingly, if you are not the person creating the automation, you are the person being replaced by it.
Our reports detail exactly how we intend to teach each topic down to the milestone level with advice on how you can further learning with fun games outside of the system.
We provide advice on how to work with the students on mistakes so that the pressure is always off. At any point in time, if your student is struggling, we are always happy to look at the data and advise.
